Youth Economic empowerment program

This is where A-STEP transforms the sport teams into self help group with the aim of encouraging them to begin Income Generating Activities (IGA) of their choice so that they can be self sustainable.

The duty of the teams/ groups is to choose a viable IGA after being given professional advice from the organization, then the organization assists them on the start-up by involving local well-wishers.

With this program, the organization has developed a work force pool, that is, it has a list of youths who can do casual labour for individuals/ organizations.

The casual labour entail small jobs like:
  • Weeding flowerbeds and farms
  • Construction
  • Fencing compounds
  • Laundry
  • Painting

With the workforce pool, the organization is then able to connect potential employers to the widely untapped workforce (youths) who live idle lives in our communities.

The program gives the youths the opportunity to interact with prosperous persons in the community so as to give them the same perspectives that these persons have to work and leave. This is done through motivational talks/ forums with the aim of uplifting the youths’ will to grow socially and economically.

With a change on the view to life, youths then get the drive to work hard in their activities knowing that everyone can make it in life (the program develops optimism in the youths).
