A-STEP/SM&O Exchange and Learning Partnership
A-STEP has been partnering with the University of Amsterdam for the last three years through Kenya Sports for Development Partnership (KSDP) which is involved with organizations that are using sports as a tool for Development in Kenya.
KSDP aims at the mobilization, organization and enhancement of the capacities of marginalized children and youth to engage in sports and participate in addressing key development issues, such as poverty and economic empowerment for a greater peaceful societal transformation. The partnership consists of more than twenty peace and sports for development organizations which focus on marginalized young people, persons with disabilities (PWD’s), and girls/women throughout the country. The Sports Management and Business students from the University of Amsterdam, are students who are pursuing courses on sports management and development, the students have visited A-STEP in 2012, 2013, 2014, and provided some training skills to the Community Coaches and School sports teachers on Value based sports. This has been helpful to some of the sports leaders in the region whereby they also interacted with the local community clubs creating a platform for cultural learning and exchange, in sports and lifestyle. This year A-STEP will be hosting the Exchange program, where 13 sports students and 2 lecturers will be visiting Kenya and especially Uasin Gishu County, from 6th July 2015 to 20th July 2015. The main aim of the visit is to have the exchange and learning on Sports and Development. The Sports students will participate in the construction of A-STEP House of Talents Centre that is currently under construction, and engage in sports cultural exchange with local community clubs.
